Adoptions & Donations
Our StoryIn August 2008, zoocrew.eu founders, Natalie and Heiko, visited the Painted Dog Conservation (PDC) project in Zimbabwe. PDC's efforts to educate the local community and involve them in the protection of Africa's Painted Dogs is impressive. There are very few Painted Dogs (also known as African Wild Dogs) remaining in the wild. Being nomadic, they travel great distances, only staying in the same location when they have pups. So when we came across a pack of 24 dogs during our trip to Tanzania in February 2009, it was incredible; we simply could not believe our eyes and it was one of the highlights of our trip! PDC's anti-poaching units carry out daily anti-poaching patrols throughout the Gwayi Conservancy bordering Hwange National Park. Since the first unit was deployed in 2001, more than 12,000 snares have been collected (correct as of August 2009). The local artists at Iganyana Arts then turn the snares into artwork, which is sold across the world. Heiko and I are always in admiration of the creativity of these people and have purchased several intricately made sculptures and wooden carvings from Stichting PDC, and in doing so, have helped to support the project in Zimbabwe.,/p> Since 2009, zoocrew.eu is a Friend of the Dogs and is committed to making regular monthly donations to Stichting Painted Dog Conservation.
